Google's team blog for the Ragnar Relay Northwest Passage

July 20-21st 2012 Google's 6th year at the Ragnar Relay Northwest Passage! This is a two day, 190 mile relay race from the northern tip of Washington in Blaine, through farm country and along the coast, across Deception Pass and finishing at the southern end of Whidbey Island at Langley. This isn't your average team offsite!

Moishe's Notable moments from Team 2 Van 2:

6:15am, en route to the start, way too early for a discussion about vi vs. emacs. It happened anyway. At least we got it out of the way early.

Friday afternoon, looking at the course profiles in the race bible:

(discussion of how Van 2 got all the hillier parts)

Me: Wow, we have way more area under our curve than Van 1!
(4 nerds in unison): Why didn't we compute the integral!?
Kurt: Screw the integral, why did nobody do an FFT?

Early Saturday morning (or was it late Friday night? Honestly I can't remember) in the throes of massive sleep deprivation, the "try to hack me, my IP address is 127.0.0.1" story came up and we started reading stories of IRC pwnage on our iPhones. For about 30 minutes straight. All of us were in tears from laughing so hard (well, at least I was).

For reasons I can't explain, many of the teams' vans were decorated with some sort of sexual theme. Therefore, it was refreshing to see the G-Nomes team van decorated with what looked like a graph from a mass spectrometer. Nerd pride FTW!

The running was fun too. Highlights for me: running into Anacortes at 1am along the bridge/breakwater with distant lightning flashing above the mountains; the long, long climb on my 3rd leg and then the fast, fun downhill to the exchange; escaping the heat in the shade of the van; cheering everyone on from the van, and getting cheers from my team and other teams.

Can't wait for next year!

Either I was so sleep depped I completely forgot about this, or it was during my run. Which would make it late late Friday night :-)

Brie, I think it was during your last leg, so I guess that would make it late morning on Saturday? Honestly my only sense of time comes from knowing what runner was on the road, nothing else, but you're right, I was waiting to hand you water when this came up.
